Canoe Construction

We cast our canoe in three layers of concrete with carbon fibre mesh between each layer. The first layer of concrete on the mould is responsible for the inlay design while the outermost layer presents the outer design. The fibre mesh adds more strength to the concrete while adding in very little size and mass.

Aesthetic designs of the canoe are depicted with the use of foam. Inlays are suspended from the mould to cast the first colour around the inlay. After removing the inlays, the second colour is filled in the areas outlined by the first colour.

About

Each year, the UofT Concrete Canoe design team design, test, and construct our own canoe and pit it against other universities in national competitions.
