Finishing

The team spends a significant amount of time in sanding the canoe to ensure a smooth finish. The interior of the canoe is first wet sanded indoor to prevent harmful dust exposure to members and nearby offices. For the water side of the canoe, since it is a convex surface, the team is able to use its power sanders. After thorough sanding, sealer is applied to both the interior and the exterior of the canoe. In the end, the team sands all surfaces of the canoe with 2000 grit sandpaper to remove any bubbles the sealer may have created.

About

Each year, the UofT Concrete Canoe design team design, test, and construct our own canoe and pit it against other universities in national competitions.
